ubuntu... do not upgrade..
Posted by: phpforfun in Untagged on Jun 18, 2008
So I had ubuntu 7.10 on my desktop, and I felt it was time to upgrade to 8.04, I heard stories about the results of an upgrade as opposed to a fresh install, and I did a fresh install on my laptop and it works great, did an upgrade on my desktop and wow.. errors left and right, cant even start some programs like pidgin. My graphics are screwed, EVERYTHING has this moving fuzz around it, and the logon screen is 3 times as large as it should be...
So.. dont upgrade if you have 7.10, backup your files and do a fresh install..

| I ran into this same problem when upgrading Suse 8 to 9. I think on most Operating Systems it is better to just do a fresh install. | |

I upgraded to 8.04 about three weeks ago, and I've had close to no problems. There was some minor problems with Firefox and Flash, but I got fixed that easily, and then there has only been some graphics bugs, especially with the OpenOffice applications. So nothing big. I'm sorry to hear that you've been having so many problems. |
